Former Destiny’s Child Kelly Rowland visits the SAZ
Kelly Rowland, formally of Destiny’s Child visited LBOS on Friday 9th May as part of the Nike ‘Here I am’ campaign and ‘women win’ charity. Girls from Harris Girls Academy, Peckham Academy and the Lillian Baylis Technology School were invited. Kelly gave an inspirational talk on the importance of girls and young women being actively involved in sport, followed by a question and answer session which she was more than happy to let overrun to allow more girls to ask questions. There followed a performance by the Nike D-Clash dancers. Kelly returned to the stage and performed a few of her songs to the delight of everyone there.

New Mayor Boris Johnson visits the Lillian Baylis Old School
The SAZ hosted a visit by the new Mayor of London, Boris Johnson on Thursday 15th May who came down to see first hand the work of the SAZ at Lilian Baylis Old school and the impact of this work on young people. During this visit, the Mayor took the opportunity to announce that Kate Hoey, MP, is to become his Commissioner for Sport for London

Sport Action Zone Director awarded MBE for Services to Community Sport
Brian Dickens, Director of the North Lambeth and North Southwark Sport Action Zone, was awarded an MBE in the Birthday Honours list published on 14 June 2008. The honour plays tribute to Brian’s outstanding contribution to community sports in London.
